At Nis Clinic's Ear, Nose & Throat department, we provide both medical and surgical treatment of ENT and related head and neck conditions through a multidisciplinary approach. Our outpatient consultations use endoscopic and microscopic techniques as standard; diagnostic investigations for hearing and vestibular disorders are performed within the department. The department's lead physician is Op. Dr. Ahmet Gülle, an ENT specialist with over three decades of clinical experience and advanced training in endoscopic sinus surgery and ENT laser applications.

Our Services

Our ENT department offers diagnosis and treatment across the following areas:

  • Ear conditions: Hearing loss, ear infections, vestibular disorders, vertigo, tinnitus, acute and chronic otitis media, facial palsy.

Paediatric ENT Conditions and Surgery

The most common ENT problems in children and the treatments we provide:

  • Adenoid hypertrophy and adenoidectomy
  • Tonsillitis and tonsillectomy
  • Acute otitis media and recurrent middle ear infections
  • Grommet (ventilation tube) insertion
  • Childhood hearing screening and otoacoustic emission testing
  • Hearing assessment for speech delay

Surgical decisions in paediatric patients are made together with families on the basis of clinical findings, frequency, recurrence pattern, and impact on quality of life. Where surgery is not essential, we prefer medical monitoring.

Adult Nasal and Sinus Surgery

The principal nasal and sinus procedures we perform in adult patients:

  • Septal deviation (septoplasty) — cartilage and bone correction
  • Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) — chronic sinusitis, polyps, and obstruction
  • Turbinate reduction — nasal obstruction, turbinate hypertrophy
  • Balloon sinuplasty and advanced endoscopic techniques

Aesthetic rhinoplasty is performed by the plastic surgery service on our first floor (Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin). When a combined functional septoplasty and cosmetic rhinoplasty is needed, both specialities carry out a joint assessment.

Audiology Unit — Hearing Assessment

Our audiology unit performs the following tests as standard:

  • Pure-tone audiometry (PTA) — frequency-specific hearing threshold determination
  • Speech audiometry (SRT, SDS) — speech recognition capacity
  • Tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing — middle ear pressure, ossicular chain, and facial nerve pathway
  • Otoacoustic emission (OAE) testing — the gold standard for newborn hearing screening
  • Auditory brainstem response (ABR/ERA) — objective testing for newborns and non-cooperative patient groups

Hearing aid candidacy is determined by combining clinical examination and audiometric assessment; referral to a hearing aid fitting centre is arranged where indicated.

Voice and Swallowing Disorders

We assess hoarseness, vocal cord nodules, laryngitis, laryngeal complaints related to reflux, and swallowing difficulties. Oesophagoscopy is performed when required, and gastroenterology consultation is coordinated accordingly. Professional voice users — teachers and vocal artists — receive voice hygiene education and a structured monitoring protocol.

How do I book an ENT appointment?
ENT appointments can be booked by telephone or via our appointment form. For non-urgent matters, the average wait is 1–3 days. For conditions such as tonsil infection or acute otitis media, we aim to arrange same-day or next-day appointments wherever possible.
Does my child need a tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy?
The decision to proceed with tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy is based on the full clinical picture, not a single finding. Factors considered together include six or more infection episodes per year, nocturnal snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, recurrent middle ear infections, habitual mouth breathing, and developmental concerns. We discuss each of these criteria at consultation and, where surgery is not unavoidable, we prefer medical monitoring.
What is endoscopic sinus surgery and who is it suitable for?
Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is a procedure in which a slender endoscope is introduced through the nose to open the natural drainage pathways of the sinuses. No external incision is required. Indications include chronic sinusitis resistant to medical treatment, nasal polyposis, mucocoele, antrochoanal polyp, and selected orbital or skull-base conditions. Patient selection involves CT imaging, endoscopic examination, and assessment of the response to medical therapy.
Is audiometry painful, and how long does it take?
Pure-tone audiometry (PTA) is entirely painless and non-invasive. In a sound-treated booth, you listen through headphones to tones of varying frequency and intensity and press a button each time you hear one. A typical session takes 15–25 minutes. In children, play audiometry is used; for newborns, OAE or ABR is preferred — these tests use gentler sound stimuli and can be performed during sleep.
Can persistent tinnitus be treated?
Tinnitus is not a single condition but a common symptom of many underlying causes, including noise exposure, ototoxic medicines, vascular factors, presbycusis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and anxiety. Management begins with identifying the underlying cause: a detailed ENT examination, audiometry, and, where necessary, further imaging. When an identifiable cause is found, it is treated directly. In idiopathic cases, tinnitus retraining therapy, sound therapy, masking, and psychoeducation are used in combination. There is no single definitive cure, but quality of life can be improved significantly.
