Why Do Patients Choose Cyprus for a Hair Transplant?

Who is the Cyprus route right for?

We do not recommend island treatment to every patient. The Cyprus route is particularly well suited to the following profiles:

• Patients from the UK and Europe: Direct flights from London, Manchester, Berlin and Frankfurt take 4–5 hours.
• Those uncomfortable with high-volume clinic environments: Patients seeking a planned, single-case focus rather than a "hair factory" model treating 8–10 patients per day.
• Patients with a flexible post-operative schedule: Those who can spend 7–10 days away from work and social pressures.
• Patients who need English as the working language: In Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the healthcare sector operates largely in English; no interpreter chain is required.
• Those who value long-term follow-up: Patients who want to remain in contact with the same team through to the 12-month review.

For patients who are comparing every euro with high-volume clinics in Türkiye and want to fly home immediately after the procedure, Cyprus is not the economical choice. We say this directly.

Price: Türkiye is generally more competitive

The hair transplant market in Türkiye can offer lower prices thanks to high case volumes. Packages at mid-range Istanbul clinics are available in the €1,500–€3,500 range. In Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the segment is narrower: performing the procedure under the supervision of a plastic surgeon, on a single-case basis, in an accredited environment, pushes the lower end of pricing upward. The typical range sits between €2,500 and €4,500.

The clear message: Cyprus is not the cheapest option. Patients who choose Cyprus come for the time dedicated to each individual patient, access to the surgeon and island comfort — not for price. We need to present this as a conscious choice; we cannot appropriately serve a patient whose priority is solely cost.

Experience: volume versus individual follow-up

Large centres in Türkiye perform thousands of cases per year. That volume has established strong technical standards; there are excellent clinics there, particularly for follicular unit extraction (FUE). However, at some centres the procedure is carried out largely by a technician team, with the operating surgeon visible only during the planning phase.

In Northern Cyprus (TRNC) — at least within Nis Clinic's practice — the model is different: we schedule one hair transplant case per day. Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin is personally present during the planning and critical phases of every procedure. The technician team supports graft extraction and implantation, but medical responsibility rests with one person. This means a slower rotation — and a more personal process.

Getting there and comfort

Istanbul is a major metropolis reachable from Europe in 3–4 hours. Cyprus is quieter: Ercan Airport (ECN) is accessible via Türkiye with a connection, or via Larnaka or Paphos with a border crossing. Flight times fall in the 4–5 hour range. One drawback: some European departure points have no direct service; a connection is required.

On comfort, the island has the advantage. Coastline, a calm climate, small and walkable towns. From day two after the procedure, the environment is well suited to short walks and light social activity. Istanbul's traffic and crowds can be physically tiring during precisely this recovery window.

Language and communication

In Northern Cyprus (TRNC), English functions as the operational language of the healthcare sector. Consultations, consent forms, daily follow-up and discharge notes can all be conducted in English. For patients arriving from the UK and Europe, this reduces reliance on an interpreter.

Large hair transplant centres in Türkiye also provide English-language support, but it is usually delivered through a dedicated interpreter team. Direct, one-to-one communication with the surgeon in English is not guaranteed at every clinic. Cyprus offers a slightly more straightforward environment on this point.

Day 1 and 2: Arrival and procedure

Day 1 (Monday example): Transfer from Ercan Airport (ECN) or Larnaka, hotel check-in, rest. A short introductory visit to the clinic in the afternoon, followed by a face-to-face consultation. Hair analysis, photography, blood-test review and the procedure plan are discussed together.

Day 2 (Tuesday): Procedure day. Patients arrive at the clinic after breakfast. Hair shaving and sterile preparation, local anaesthesia, graft extraction and implantation — the total process takes 5–8 hours. After the procedure: first dressing, prescription and written aftercare guide are handed over. Return to hotel and an early night.

Days 3–5: First wash and light activity

Day 3: First wash at the clinic — our team demonstrates the technique. Mild swelling and redness are expected and normal. Return to hotel; rest for most of the day.

Days 4–5: Second and third washes at the accommodation. Swelling begins to subside. Short walks along the coast are fine; opt for lighter meals. Avoid direct sun exposure for longer than 30 minutes; wear a wide-brim hat. These days are well suited to quiet activities: an afternoon stroll around Kyrenia's ancient harbour or a coffee stop in Bellapais.

Days 6–10: Settling in and heading home

Days 6–8: Scab shedding begins — this is a completely natural stage. The washing routine continues. A morning walk, dinner at a relaxed restaurant and short heritage excursions (for example, the ancient city of Salamis) are all feasible.

Days 9–10: Review appointment. The donor and recipient areas are photographed and healing is assessed. The follow-up schedule through to month 12 — week 1, month 1, month 3, month 6 and month 12 — is shared in writing. Return flight on day 10.

Remote follow-up after the review appointments is conducted via photograph and video consultation. This 10-day window is a period in which the island's comfort and the medical process are purposefully designed to work together.

One case per day

Large centres may treat 5–10 patients on the same day. At Nis Clinic, we schedule one hair transplant case per day. This decision does not affect how long the procedure takes — it affects the attention devoted to each patient and access to the surgeon. The direct result of this model is that the patient does not feel rushed on the day of surgery, questions receive answers, and the surgeon checks in during the first hours after the procedure without being called.

The surgeon is personally present throughout

Transparent pricing and a written schedule

The price is shared in writing after the consultation. There are no items added later: medication, the first wash, follow-up appointments and the 12-month remote monitoring package are all included. The schedule is also provided in writing: which day each step takes place, which review appointments are scheduled and what needs to be completed before the return flight — all of this is handed over as a document. It is a system designed to answer "could anything catch me off guard?" before it is asked.
